Recommendation Tuesday!

Are you a fan of webcomics that make you laugh, learn something, AND relate to on various levels?   WELL, HAVE I GOT THE RECOMMENDATION FOR YOU!  My extremely talented friend created a web comic series about the misadventures of six aspiring doctors as she studies for the MCATs and it is pure awesome.  Then you can say with a sly grin that you knew about it before the comics became an award winning graphic novel (and/or television show/film/ hit play/ broadway musical).  Check it out!  HERE

Gallon sized servings of caffeinated beverages?

Image
There are mornings when a gallon of coffee (or intravenous coffee) seems ideal though the cons outweigh the pros from a practical standpoint.  I don't want to think about how to get a gallon of spilled coffee or tea out of carpet.  I also would be shaking from drinking THAT MUCH caffeine if my horrifying experience with Haymarket's 24oz Mocha taught me anything.  A couple of hours after I drank that Mocha, my heart felt like it was going to burst out of my chest and do tap routine on the table, which puts a damper on all dinnertime conversation.  In light of being a caffeine light-weight, music is a much better wake up option.

National Libraries Week

In honor of National Libraries week, here is a sampling of what a library offers its community: Because of a library people.... have free access to a dizzying amount of electronic and print resources. get one on one help from information professionals to navigate those resources.  had Google long before the internet existed in the form of card catalogs (thank you, cataloguers).  can use a computer for free.  can learn how to do just about anything (such as setting up an e-mail address, writing a resume, studying for the SATs, learning about new government programs, etc.).  have a quiet space to work without the expectation of purchasing something.  have the opportunity to self educate. participate in a range of all ages programming at no cost. can learn about their community's history through the Archives. have access to new technologies.  have an environment that fosters intellectual freedom and privacy. get items delivered to them from other libraries via
